  14. Here is the executable for the newest version of MiNT. This binary
  15. may be redistributed, subject to the conditions in the file "copying".
  16. Please read the notice in "copying" carefully. This code is completely
  17. unsupported; you use it at your own risk.

  19. Instructions:

  21. (1) To upgrade your existing MultiTOS installation:
  22.     Look in your AUTO folder. You should have a file in there
  23.     called either MINT.PRG or MINTNP.PRG. Rename that file to
  24.     MINT.BAK or MINTNP.BAK (so that you can recover if something
  25.     goes wrong). Copy the file MINTNP.PRG from this distribution
  26.     into the AUTO folder.

  28. (2) To run MiNT without MultiTOS:
  29.     Copy MINTNP.PRG into your AUTO folder. Generally it should be
  30.     the last thing in the AUTO folder, although this is not
  31.     absolutely required; some experimentation may be necessary
  32.     to figure out where the best place to put it is.
  33.  
  34. (3) Now reboot. The new version of MiNT will run. If you have software
  35.     that knows about MiNT (e.g. MultiTOS's GEM.SYS program) then you're
  36.     all set. Otherwise, you won't notice much difference; your system
  37.     will be capable of multitasking, but unless you have a desktop or
  38.     shell that can launch multiple programs, you won't be able to
  39.     take advantage of that fact. There are many freeware shells (such
  40.     as BASH, TCSH, and TOSWIN) that can let you multitask when used
  41.     with MiNT.

  43. OK, those are pretty slim instructions. Sorry. If you have trouble
  44. using MiNT, I'd suggest you get a pre-packaged version, e.g. MultiTOS,
  45. or the MiNTos distribution, or something like that.
